Switch Management Setup

HP Procurve Management will explain what needs to be done to create a manageable network with management-vlan, management-port and management-ip procedure in a network consisting of manageable switches.

Since this article is based on a network consisting of E-series HP network switches, the commands we have written may not be applied exactly on A-series HP switches. It will be possible to do the same thing with similar command sequences.

The switches in the network consist of HP 5308 XL Backbone Switch, HP-2650 and HP-2624 edge switch. Considering that settings such as IP routing, VLAN configuration will be made in the MAnagement network in the future, the gateway is determined. Since I do VLAN and IP Routing on the firewall connected to my network, I will position my firewall device as the gateway.

VLAN Configuration:

I defined a Vlan interface on the firewall with the name VLAN-100 and Vlan ID: 100. The information about this Vlan is as follows;

VLAN-100 Management VLAN – Firewall Config:

Vlan Name: VLAN100 Vlan ID: 100 Gateway: 10.100.0.1/255.255.255.255.0 IP Range: 10.100.0.[2-81] I wrote for 80 switches.
Tagged Ports: Vlan100 interface on Mgmnt-1.

After setting the firewall side as gateway, let’s write the configuration on the backbone switch.

Similarly, when the edge switches are configured in the edge switches, the network has switched to a management structure and can be managed much more easily and reliably.
