HP Storage Management Port

I would like to draw attention to a point that we often come across in HP Storage Units and that escapes the attention of system administrators. Our scenario is as follows,

You have an HP DL380 model Server and using the FC interface on this server, it communicates with HP P2000 Storage as Multimode with f/o modules. Let the transfer rate be 8 gbit in the data that will flow over the multimode cable.

In our P2000 FC supported model, data transfer will flow over 50/125 micron orange f/o patch cable. The problem is that only one of the management interfaces on the Management Modules in the picture below, which I have marked with red circles, can be brought to the network or none of them have network access.

Server Management Errors

The risk factor here is that the Management modules communicate with each other through the network management port.

For this reason, if only one of them is included in the network or none of them are included in the network, module A cannot communicate with B and B cannot communicate with A. This will trigger many errors in the future, such as“Enclosure Degraded” error, disabling the storage unit and not being able to read the data on the logical disk on the server side.

For this reason, both the network management ports in module A and module B should be connected to the same network with different IP addresses. The fact that the IP addresses to be used here are members of the management VLAN in the network will provide extra security. As a test, if you can access the Web interfaces of both modules via their IP addresses, the risk factor is eliminated.
