The Google Local Guides service is actually a service that works within the“Google Maps” application. Google has always been a pioneer of innovation on the Web and the Internet. It has developed new products and services in line with the daily needs of us users.
One of these innovations is that Map applications contain more content and details. When there is a lot of content, it is necessary to pass them through a filter and approval mechanism. At this stage, Google offers users the“Google Local Guide” service within the Maps application.
With the Google Local Guide service, users can both discover new places and add places-locations to the maps themselves. Moreover, Google also allows verification processes to be done together with users.
Let’s start explaining the Google Local Guide Service step by step.
1. How to Become a Local Guide?
Google Local Guides will not cost you anything to become a Local Guide. You just need to have an active Google Account . This service is free to use and you can use it on your computer, tablet or smartphone.

Although it is generally preferred via the mobile app, it can also be more convenient to add detailed comments and photos via your computer’s web browser. This choice is entirely up to you.
2. Making the Local Directory Service Available

After entering the Google Maps application or site, when you click on the Menu () sign at the top left, the following menu will appear.
In this menu, click where it says Your Contributions. After this step, you will reach the Local Directory service embedded in the Google Maps application and you will be greeted with the following page.
Let’s examine the items on this screen by sequence number.
1- Level and Score Information
By clicking on the #1 link, you can access your account’s level information and statistics about your interactions. You can also see the medals and level information you have earned on this screen.
2- Local Guide Star
This screen opens in the same way as screen 1. However, the number of vertices of the star icon number 2 also indicates your Level. So if you are at level 7, you will see a 7-pointed star.
3- Your Level of Commenting
In Google Local Places, your account is categorized and graded with 3 levels according to the number of comments you make, comment length and usefulness.
Badges
Novice Commentator
► It is enough to comment in 3 different places.
Expert Commentator
► Write comments in 25 different places.
► Min. Write 5 comments of 200 characters.
► Write comments that are liked a total of 5 times.
Master Commentator
► Write comments in 100 different places.
► Min. Write 50 comments with 200 characters.
► Write comments that are liked a total of 50 times.
Expert Witness Badges
This badge is awarded in 3 levels for helping visitors to have valid and up-to-date information about the places they want to visit.
Novice Information Finder
► 3 Submit confirmed edit.
► 3 Verify edit.
► 25 Select answers to questions.
Expert Witness
► Propose 25 approved edits.
► Verify 25 edits.
► Select answers to 250 questions.
Master Expert
► Suggest 100 approved edits.
► Verify 100 edits.
► Select answers for 1000 questions.
