Switch

You can connect to the Switch CLI interface with an application such as SSH, Telnet or you can connect directly via serial port with management access. You can use software such as SecureCRT or Putty for this. If the device has been configured before, it may have a connection password on it. You cannot log in to the switch management console without knowing this password.

Type the following commands to activate the CLI interface on the switch.

After typing these codes, the switch enters management mode. If you have a password, you will be asked to enter the password at this stage. After this stage, configuration can be done on the Layer3 and Layer2 layer on the switch if it supports it. There is also iprouting support on some switches.

Router

Network devices that organize and route IP blocks and VLan traffic. The simplest router is the modem in your home. The router software on the modem can do very limited things. It collects local (internal) traffic and transmits it to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). In the same way, the returned responses are forwarded to the relevant staff in the local network.

In the top picture, you can see a Juniper brand Router device. It has Gigabit Fiber and Ethernet ports on it. In order for the traffic to flow fast and optimized, F/O, i.e. Fiber ports are usually used as Uplink.

Router devices inherently have fewer cables than switches. It is connected to only a few Farm Switches and management network. Instead of Farm Switch, terms such as Main Switch, Backbone Switch, BackBone Switch are also used.

Collosion ve Broadcast Domain (CCNA Exam Question)

Collosion domain means collision domain. It is caused by the collision of packets broadcast at the same time. If packets collide, both interfaces have to rebroadcast. The result is an unnecessary traffic load.

The risk of this conflict is very high in dumb switches used as hub switches. For this reason, regardless of whether there are 2 computers or 14 computers on the Hub, the instant Collosion Domain number is 1. Otherwise, the Collosion packets generated will overlap.

If you use a Switch (Managed Switch), the number of Collosion Domains in your network will be equal to the number of ports and therefore the number of computers. Because each port of the Smart Switch produces an independent Collosion Domain. Collosion Domains produced by other ports do not interfere with each other. In the CCNA exam, a large number of questions are asked from this section.
