Link Aggregation Control Protocol

The LACP protocol in 802.11g can be utilized in order to provide an increase in both backup and speed in the uplinks from the backbone switch to the edge switches on the network. We have already provided some information on this subject in our previous articles(HP E-Series Switch Configuration [1]-Spanning Tree and Spanning Tree Protocol Usage and Configuration – STP).

Let’s see the (Link Aggregation Control Protocol) scheme that connects two switches on topology:

For this topology, let’s select ports 49 and 50 on HP Procurve Switches. It would be logical to choose the same numbered ports on both switches. If you do not have the possibility to choose, ports with the same interface speed should be selected.

Procurve2650(config)#: trunk 49-50 trk1 lacp

Write these commands similarly on both switches. You need to pay attention to enter the same name on both sides where it says trk1. If you do not configure the Link Aggregation Control Protocol, one of the ports will be blocked if the Spanning Tree protocol is on. If the Spanning Tree protocol is off, the switches will fall into Loop after a while.

After configuring Link Aggregation Control Protocol, it will be necessary to do VLAN-trunk. In other words, it will be necessary to decide which IP addresses belonging to which VLAN blocks will pass and tagged. For example;

Procurve2650#: config terminal
Procurve2650(config)#: vlan 100
Procurve2650(vlan-100)#: tagged trk1

No matter how many trunk connections there are, they can be Vlan-tagged like an interface.
