Fortigate Whatsapp Blocking

We will briefly talk about what you need to do to block access to the Whatsapp application on a local network that goes out to the internet via Fortigate.

In which network, more precisely in which Vlan block it will restrict access, find out the Application Filter profile of the Policy settings used by that block. You can easily learn this by going to the relevant record under the Policy menu.

Then go to Application Control > Application Sensor in the UTM Profiles menu. Here, when you select IM>Other>Client-Server>TCP-SSL fields respectively, you can see Whatsapp and similar applications in the list in the table.

From the Action section below the table, you can monitor with Monitoring or block completely with Block. With the other options you can limit the traffic or set a quota.
