How to Connect HP Storage to a Server with FC Fiberoptic Cable?

While technology is developing rapidly, IT requirements are developing and changing in parallel. While connecting the Server and Storage Unit with Slave SCSI cables, Server and Storage units with FC Module are now preferred due to the need for speed and easier use in large areas.

Although there are Fiber Modules that can operate with an average of 1Gbps to 40Gbps bands, the most commonly used ones are 8Gbps and 10Gbps modules due to high cost and lack of infrastructure. Datacenter models with high performance and capacity are preferred on local networks that provide broadband support with Virtual Server and Storage Systems that have developed in recent years.

By connecting from the management console of the storage unit, we will do the Mapping of Disks assuming that you have set IP, user information, made raid operations (described in previous articles) and made physical connections.

In the first step, we will log in to Default Mapping settings from the Provisioning tab by right-clicking on the Volume names whose raids we have set.

When you select this option, Mapping settings will appear on the screen that will open.

Now the Default Mapping information of the Management Modules will be shown in the table. Select the first one and check the Map box at the bottom, in the box that says LUN (Logical Unit Number) Logical Disk Number, write a sequence number starting from 0 respectively. The number you give to the LUN will also be seen as the partition number of this Volume in the Disk Manager screen on the Windows side.

In Windows environment, you can determine which Volume corresponds to the partition section on the storage side. For the P2000 Storage I use, I can do 4-way mapping. There are two fiber modules in the First Management and two fiber modules in the Second Management. We will configure which of the 4 data paths named A1,A2 and B1,B2 will reach the server.

You can do this by specifying 1 path or 4 paths. I set all four paths for redundancy. You can also manage the read and write permission of the disk from here in the same way. After doing these operations, go to the Server side and initialize the disks and then format them and make them ready for use.

You can easily perform the transactions in 4 steps.
