How to Increase FortiAnalyzer Disk Capacity?

In Fortinet Firewall systems, FortiAnalyzer devices, which record the logs requested for both incoming and outgoing data for client and server groups, need to increase disk capacity in order to keep more and longer log records.

However, for this process, we need to know the maximum supported hard disk size and hard disk type of the device. I will try to explain the disk upgrade process I performed on the Fortianalyzer 100 B model with pictures.

First of all, let’s take a backup by logging into the Fortianalyzer web panel. Let’s backup both configuration and firmware. Turn off the device by clicking the ShutDown link on the Dashboard page. If you do not shut down with this method, the firmware and information on the disk may be damaged.

Disconnect the cables after the device’s LEDs go out. If it is mounted in a cabinet, remove it from the cabinet. Place it on the table.

Remove all screws on the back and sides of the device.

Completely remove the protective casing and covers of the device.

You will see such a board when the device is opened. It may vary from model to model. For 100B, IDE type disk is used as hard disk, so you will not be able to increase the capacity much. I found and installed a 500GB disk as the largest capacity IDE disk and the one that came with it is already 250GB.

Gently remove the IDE cable without damaging it and remove the screws on the 4 sides of the hdd, insert the new disk and secure the new hard drive with the screws you removed. Then connect the ide cable and power cable. Dust the device while you have it open and then close the covers and install it in the cabinet.

Plug in the cables and log in to the administration panel. If you can see the disk capacity as 457… in fractions on the Dashboard screen, the process is complete. However, since the existing log records remain on the old disk, this disk will appear as empty. You can also perform a transfer if you wish.
